Mandate The Committee prepares legislative proposals.
Membership The Committee is composed of 30 members, who are in principle appointed for the duration of the legislature. Members of the bureau are renewed each year.
Working methods Apart from law proposals, which have been dealt with following established procedures, the Committee has not had to address any other aspects of human rights. These have been dealt with by the National Human Rights Organization and the Human Rights Office (Guichet des droits de l'homme). An international conference on femal genital mutilation was organized jointly by the IPU and UNESCO in Dakar.
